Cookies and analytics

What we record

Once you accept, each page you view sends:

• the page you are on
• the site's language (English or French)
• the market you are browsing in
• the country and device type Google works out from your connection, not from anything we send it

No profile

We keep no name, no account and no profile of you. Google Analytics reports in aggregate — how many visits, which pages, which markets — never who made them.

The cookies

Accepting sets two cookies, both from Google:

• _ga — identifies your browser so repeat visits can be counted together (up to 2 years)
• _ga_<container ID> — holds your current Google Analytics session (up to 2 years)

The site sets a few small cookies of its own as well. These are set whatever you decide here, they stay between your browser and this site, and none of them goes to Google:

• mw_consent — remembers the choice you make with the switch near the top of this page (6 months)
• mw_age — remembers that you confirmed your age (1 year)
• mw_market — remembers which market you are browsing in (1 year)
• mw_cart — holds what is in your basket, in the markets where wine is bought on this site (14 days)

If you decline

Declining changes nothing else about the site. Every page, wine and story is still there; we simply do not count the visit.

Changing your mind

Use the switch near the top of this page whenever you like. Turning analytics off removes the two Google cookies immediately and stops the count from your next page onward; turning it back on starts counting again straight away. Every page of the site links here from its footer — though, like the rest of the site, this page sits behind the age confirmation, so you will be asked that first.

What this page does not cover

Buying wine happens on Shopify's own checkout, under Shopify's own cookie notice — this switch has no control over it. Sanity Studio, the tool our team uses to write this site, is not part of the public site either, and this page has nothing to do with it.
