A restored château, and everything since.
Róbert and Ksenia Wessman bought Château de Saint-Cernin in the early 2000s, restored it stone by stone, planted the high plateau of Issigeac and released a first vintage in 2016. Then came the Vignoble des Verdots in Bergerac, and Chardonnay at La Serpent in Limoux.
Sixty hectares, three terroirs, one blending table. Limestone and flint at Conne-de-Labarde, well-drained limestone above Issigeac, Pyrenean altitude at Limoux. Every cuvée is finished with Andreas Larsson — World's Best Sommelier 2007 — and poured at Thierry Marx's kitchen on the estate. The fame is downstream of the farming.

The flagship: clay, limestone and flint at Conne-de-Labarde. Nineteen hectares of white, twenty-six of red, and an underground cellar with a river running through it. Home of the Marx bistrot and of Le Paradis tasting room.

Why the wine is different
A famous name can open a bottle once. Only the blend brings anyone back.
Real appellations, farmed by the house — not bought in. The Verdots is slowly becoming an eco-village: cover crops between the rows, lighter glass, cellar tours, rooms for guests, and certified organic farming at Saint-Cernin first.

Parcel by parcel, at night when the vintage demands it. Fruit arrives cool, is sorted twice, and never travels far — the cellar sits inside the vineyard.
Every parcel ferments separately so nothing is averaged away. Only as much oak as the fruit will carry; the underground cellar holds its own temperature.
The final assembly happens with the World’s Best Sommelier 2007 at the bench, across several sessions, before a single bottle is filled.

A contemporary bistrot on the estate at Conne-de-Labarde — seasonal, local, and awarded a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide 2025. The only place where every cuvée is poured within sight of the vines that made it.
